Dear Oelwein Online Families,

Welcome to O² – Oelwein Online! We are excited to partner with you for a successful and engaging school year. Oelwein Online is not a generic virtual school—we are redefining online learning by bringing the small-town feel, personalized support, and accountability typically found in in-person schooling into a fully virtual environment. We offer small class sizes, strong teacher-student relationships, and a school-provided laptop for every student. Open to all Iowa residents, Oelwein Online is 100% tuition-free, although traditional public school registration fees still apply.

Across Iowa, traditional public schools graduate about 88% of students in four years, while many full-time virtual public schools graduate closer to 60–65%. At Oelwein Online, we are committed to closing that gap by providing live teacher interaction, one-on-one support, and personal connections that help students stay engaged and on track to graduate. Our philosophy is built around addressing the challenges of online learning head-on. Research shows that when students feel connected, supported, and seen, their chances of success increase—and that belief drives everything we do.

We are proud to be a fully accredited K–12 program through the Iowa Department of Education (since 2020) and to offer virtual preschool starting in 2021. Our program is student-focused, relationship-driven, and flexible, including opportunities for dual enrollment. We partner closely with families and emphasize social-emotional learning, because we believe education is about more than just coursework—it’s about the whole child.

To support learning, Oelwein Online uses Zoom for live interaction, Canvas as our learning management platform, and Edgenuity for curriculum and coursework. Teachers and support staff interact daily with students to ensure they receive personalized guidance and feel connected to their school community. Students with IEPs will continue to receive services, with placement decisions made through the IEP team process. Additional registration steps will be required through our Infinite Campus student information system.
